Complementary Medicine GMP Compliance: Manufacture, Labelling & Export

June 12, 2018
by SeerPharma

The Cosmetics and Pharmaceuticals Special Interest Group (CAPSIG) is a special interest group of the Australian Society for Microbiology (ASM). CAPSIG has existed for over 25 years and has become an important medium for the professional development of microbiologists working in therapeutics and related industries. SeerPharma has proudly supported CAPSIG throughout its existence and was invited to present on GMP Compliance in the Manufacturing, Labelling and Export of Complementary Medicines at the meeting held in April 2018.

The presentation provided an overview of the Australian (TGA) Regulatory framework for Complementary Medicines, providing an explanation of the pathways that companies must look at when registering a product, and spoke specifically about the manufacturing controls that must be in place, and the requirements of a sponsor for the product once it's on the market.

The implication of claims made and whether or not the product was for domestic (Australian) or international export were also discussed, as these commercial decisions have a direct impact on the expectations placed upon the sponsor by the regulators.
