Immersive Training in Practice: Uptale

In regulated industries, training needs to go beyond theory. While SOPs and e-learning are essential part of the process, they do not always prepare teams for the realities of working with equipment, processes, and live environments.

A relevant example comes from Satellite Healthcare, a U.S.-based provider operating in a highly controlled clinical setting.

Satellite Healthcare was looking for a way to better prepare teams for working in dialysis centres, where the environment as well as the equipment can feel unfamiliar and intimidating for new staff. Traditional training methods such as PowerPoint sessions were not sufficient to build confidence for entering real-world operations.

Using Uptale, Satellite Healthcare created an immersive training experience that puts new staff directly within a dialysis centre environment.

Staff can explore the facility, interact with medical equipment, and understand key processes and checkpoints as part of their day-to-day responsibilities. This allows them to become familiar with the environment in a safe and controlled setting, without any risk to patients or actual disruption to operations.

From a training perspective, this shift was significant.

Instead of passively reviewing procedures, learners engage with realistic scenarios and develop a clearer understanding of how tasks are performed in practice. This helps improve their confidence and readiness before actually getting into live environments.

Satellite Healthcare also found the platform intuitive and accessible, enabling their teams to build internal capability and develop further training modules independently.

While this example comes from a healthcare setting, the same can be applied to other regulated industries such as pharmaceutical manufacturing.

From GMP onboarding to aseptic training, immersive learning can provide a practical way to reinforce how procedures are applied, in addition to how they are documented.

As training requirements evolve, organisations are required to look for approaches that improve both training engagement and real-world preparedness. Immersive training offers an effective and scalable way to support this shift while staying aligned to existing quality and compliance frameworks.
